COUNTRY CHRISTMAS KICK-OFF CRUISE-IN
2 p.m. in Downtown
Monterey
Cruise-in's usually all wind up for the season by October. But, in Monterey, we'll have one more
to help us kick off the Christmas season. Its all for a good cause. We're raising funds to help the Monterey High School Choir
make an invited trip to Italy for a competition. They will be there singing for us. Santa may show up, too. The Country Christmas
Kick-Off Cruise-In starts at 2 p.m. in downtown Monterey on Nov. 20. We'll be asking for donations to help them.
The Monterey
High School Chorus was recently recommended and accepted to participate in the Association Pro Musical Cantate Domino in Italy
during the Summer of 2001. So far, they are the only chorus from the United States to be invited. The eight-day opportunity
consists of each participating choir having four concerts in a different city or village every night. The concerts are mainly
held in churches, but also in theaters or even open-air theaters suitable for choral concerts.
The Verona Festival participants are carefully selected by submitted performance videos.
Of all the entrants, our chorus was selected from all over the world. As of now, the Monterey chorus is the only chorus representing
the United States in the entire festival. A once-in-a-lifetime experience, it is also an educational experience that will
increase the understanding of the world and give the opportunity to learn first-hand about new places and cultures.
Chorus members are asking family and friends for financial sponsorships
to help with travel costs. The cost per student is $1,800, which includes roundtrip flights, transportation, accommodations,
and educational activities. All contributions are tax deductible.
There will be around 68 people going including adults (who will pay for themselves). There are at least 45
students who will be asking for and working hard for support
They
are asking for donations in whatever amount you can for students, be it $25, $50, $100 or any other amount.
Checks need to be made payable to Monterey High School Chorus Trip
in care of: Monterey High School, 710 E. Commercial Ave., Monterey, TN 38574.
More in later editions to come.
